I know this has been talked about before, but I really think some sort of "guide" for new players.
Too often do I see new players asking people constantly to join peoples factions, or how to create a faction. I try to answer them, but I think they would be so much more motivated to start their own factions and be something big if they knew what to do.
There are 2 options we can have. 1). More [Guide] players, or 2). A walk-through noobie area.
With the [Guide] solution, new members would be directed to ask guides questions related to starting out, and they would give an informative answer. This would give new players a good feeling about the server, because there's someone they can talk to and get an answer from.
The other solution, having the guide center area, has its own bonuses. New players would always have an answer this way, and they don't have to wait for a response from a guide. Also, all questions new players might have would be answered the same way, which is always a good thing. This doesn't, however, give the player a personal experience, which might make them feel more distant from the bulk of the server.
Regardless of which option is chosen, I feel like these options would help raise the amount of players on the server. Then there would be more people to raid

Are you trying to get me fired? I agree we should have some sort of a noob walk through, maybe a faction tutorial and a mcmmo tutorial and a little info about donating and the rules. However, I still think Guides are necesary for answering questions that can't be answered from a sign. GUIDES FTW
Btw, I agree with the fact that we maybe need 1 more guide. However, the main focus should go to moderators because they are the most needed. Moderators can also double as guides on a need be basis.
Thanks, -Panda

People are stupid.
Given that, there is only one way that they're going to get the answers they want; have someone feed them the information.
Our server has a website, and a forum. If any of the people asking these questions had half a brain, they would think to check there first. Sure enough, they'd have their answer.
Now, considering that they won't take 5 minutes out of their day to visit a website, I'm fairly certain that they wouldn't take five minutes out of their day to read a wall of signs that would take us hours to construct.
Unfortunately, that leaves us with the option to leave a guide to answer people's question. No offense, but guides don't tend to be all that reliable. They'll do fine for a few days, but nobody likes answering the same question 15 times an hour. I can tell you this from a mountain of personal experience.
This is a problem that we simply do not have a solution to.

I don't believe anywhere on the website there is a guide telling new members how to make a successful faction.

This is a problem that we simply do not have a solution to.
On another server, I saw a really elegant solution to this.. (They had other problems) But.. Here's the solution..
Part 1: Make a rank named newbie. Force All new players to join this rank. This rank would disallow chat, /spawn and any other commands other than /rules.. (This might be a little harsh, you could probably make chat available but, it would solve 2 problems at once.. No chat, no log on and immediate chat spams).
Part 2: Force all newbies to spawn inside a "tutorial" with a sign up there that says "Skip to the test" if they want to pass the tutorial. The tutorial would walk them through the functions of the server.. things like factions etc.
Part 3: Know how I said about that sign that says skip to the test? The Test is there to give some minor questions about the rules.. If they fail a question, they warp back to the beginning of the test.. At the end of the test, it should promote them to member. (I believe it's possible to bind commands to signs with some plugin)
Now, As for the up sides..
1. People won't spam chat as soon as they log in, they'll have to jump through a hoop before they say "WUT DO I DO? HOW DO I FACTION JOIN SOMEONE?"
2. When mods mute / ban someone, they won't say "but but but, I didn't know".. because they had to R.T.F.Rules before they get to do anything that's remotely bannable.
3. If designed right, you'll get more quality players who may actually follow the rules. 'Cause it should help weed out the people who don't really want to do anything but come in and beg for crap, bitch about stuff, and then rage quit when nobody listens to them =p
Now for the downsides.
1. Making people jump through hoops means that the amount of players that join and then quit will increase. "Oh, I have to jump through a hoop to talk? Fuck this server"
2. If people are presented with the rules, and they disagree with them.. they'll likewise quit..
3. To design it correctly it will take quite a bit of time and thought. The effort required may not be worth having a lot of players just not join because there's so much effort required before they actually get to building.
So, I guess what I'm saying is.. Forcing people to expend effort before playing is a double edged sword, On one hand you get more informed players, on the other hand you get players who might be inclined to play/donate who quit because it's too much effort or because they can't just chat immediately.

Similarly, there's not a section in the forums that tells you how to tie your shoes.

This was my favorite song for a long period of time...
If, IF, new guides are chosen how many would be chosen out of morbid curiosity?

It really isn't for me to decide, and it really depends on the amount of help a single person can give in a day (trust me, it gets annoying). Maybe like the same amount as we have mods currently.

Honestly I think that would be, WAY to many guides we have like what, 8 mods? Truthfully a more realistic number should be around 3-4, plus how would they be chosen? Application like a mod?
And what would the criteria for being chosen be based upon? (Personally I wouldn't care for being a guide, being a mod would be more "Up my alley" so to speak, but being as I'm too lazy to apply for it I'm screwed). I'm sure this would this would help the potential candidates know what they "need" in order to take the coveted position.
